Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it's all over.
My roommate and I started off the conversation talking about how being an older or younger child can affect your personality, and then we further examine our classmates in the program to reinforce our theory and arguments. In the end, I found it very interesting how everyone's interactions to each other evolve through out the year. We gradually adjusted our behavior and reactions to accommodate others'. As my roommate put it, we are almost at the final stage of growing, which is the stage one has to determine what kind of person he/she wants to be and start to develop towards that personality until the age of 27-ish. And that is why this is an interesting year because this is the stage where everyone has a pretty solid and established value, but the same time still flexible enough to adapt new ideas. There were a lot of conflicts at the beginning of the year, but now everyone has sorted it out and become a part of the community. Everyone has certain behavior and certain role in the community and we are all affecting each other's values. Cheers to friendship!

They Didn't Need To Be

By Daniel Padilla

To AW.

“Take my hand,” she said.
He took it. As she felt his hand clasp hers, she started walking.
She walked him through everything.
She walked him through all the things.
She walked him through all the time.
She walked him through the pretty and the ugly.
She walked him through the sweet and the salty.
Through the sour and the bitter.
She walked him through the happiness.
The smiles. The warmth.
Through the sun and the light.
Through life.
She walked him through the sadness. The frowns. The cold.
Through the dark and the somber. Through emptiness.
He walked with her. Beside her for most of the time. Sometimes, behind her.
But never letting go of her hand. He looked at everything. He inhaled as he took it all in, then exhaled.
He felt better.
He was reminded that he was not the only one who had ever felt as low as he currently felt.
“Thank you,” he said.
“Thank you for existing. Not only in the universe, but in my life.”
They were not happy, but they didn’t need to be.
They felt how they needed to feel.
They knew they were not alone.

This is a collaboration project between my Honduran homie Daniel Padilla and I. The idea is for him to practice more writing and for me to practice digital art. The series don't really have any direction as for now. If you'd like to do any sort of collaboration with me on this blog please don't hesitate to contact me!
Big shoutout to Daniel, Steve, and Astha ! My bro Steve just opened up his own blog, which he includes his works and photos and most importantly, some of his thoughts!!

    About

This blog was launched in August, 2015 during my 8th year of studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain. I decided to start this blog and record some of my thoughts and moments. This blog is also dedicate to Richard Fu, a good friend of mine who is now guarding me from above. He inspired me to get out of the comfort zone and be curious about the world.
