NYC as a highly-customizable desktop

Welcome! Hooray this is the first post of the blog! This is essentially an experimental blog documenting my trips and my stories. This is also my first ever English blog. I had one in Mandarin Chinese when I was in 8th grade, but the blogging site eventually shut down… Anyways, let’s begin this blog by telling my visit in New York this summer! So what happened was that, this summer was full of exams. I had to study GRE on my freaking own for a month; also I found out in the middle of summer that I have to take TOFEL again for my grad school applications. And so upon breaking down, I thought I should pay my cousin a visit. That little bastard is currently studying in NYU, and since he came all the way to Champaign last summer just to visit me, I thought I owe him one.

If Chicago is a delicate gaming laptop, then New York City is a highly-customizable desktop. Sorry for my weird references, but I think that’s one interesting way to put it. When you go to Chicago, you’d try to fit into that Windy city vibe, but when you step into the big apple, you feel a sense of belonging. You feel proud walking on the street as an individual. The city is a customizable desktop because it is formed by all kinds of community, yet all these pieces still working perfectly as one. It’s diverse in every single way: citizens, food, music, arts, architecture, you name it.

Big city = big scope. New York City holds many resources that other cities in the United States don’t have. Let’s take architecture for an example, the amount of new & old architectures, the amount of architectural exhibitions and projects happening in the city, those are some advantages that small cities can’t provide. Same as every other field, the city has a rich music scene; you get all kinds of musician from the best to the worst.

And so I ended up visiting these buildings: New Museum of Contemporary Art,  New Amsterdam Pavilion, The High Line, Whitney Museum of American Art, World Trade Center, Parsons School of Design, New York University, and Cooper Union. The High Line is a must visit for anyone. I won’t go into the technical parts of it, please, just go lol In the end there’s a video filmed and edited by my cousin, it’s a random one-day project that came out of nowhere. Hope y'all like it. ‘til next time, peace’ou.

This blog was launched in August, 2015 during my 8th year of studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain. I decided to start this blog and record some of my thoughts and moments. This blog is also dedicate to Richard Fu, a good friend of mine who is now guarding me from above. He inspired me to get out of the comfort zone and be curious about the world.
